This easy-to-join club was inspired by appreciation for educators -- teachers. leaders and staff -- who are dedicated to shaping young lives.
Fearless service during the COVID-19 Pandemic was the founding motivator, but personal memories of our own life-heroes are a powerful reason to join.
A question that deserves the iconic answer. If not now, when? Small-town public education is embattled in many ways: budget pressure, political pressure, career satisfaction for overworked, underpaid teachers, and now a pandemic requiring literal improvisation in the teaching process. Support is needed, even if only moral support.
Donations are an avenue to help, but this idea goes deeper. Once we leave school, whether a few years out or a few decades, our memories become sweeter. We are vaguely aware that public education faces grim challenges, but we tend to lose touch with the human side of the challenge. Kids just like us, being taught by dedicated teachers just like ours, face a future much tougher than we faced. In ways we often didn't even know about, citizens and leaders in our era helped us.
Yes, and just as importantly it's a stay-in-touch idea. It is common for alumni to lose all touch with the hometown school for several years, sometimes until the 10th anniversary, even the 25th. We are hopeful that graduates a few week or months out will join the Heart for UC Edudation club. No dues. No expectations except to stay in touch. And a byproduct can be maintaining closer connections with classmates as life unfolds.
Just sign up on the form below. We will stay in touch at least 4x per year by email. We will have social media presence wherever social media heads. The next section provides specific possibilities for making a difference, but the most important concept is staying in touch. Your heart more than your head will let you know when and how to engage.
