Active Communication: UPDATE Newsletter Social Media Website Volunteers
It was a tragedy in all kinds of ways that our normal alumni activities were so thoroughly disrupted for school-year 2020. The plan for 2021 is a combined banquet that recognizes the graduating classes 2020 and 2021 -- the 50-year classes 1970 and 1971... and any other classes wishing to rocover the lost opportunity to get together.
We've begun the planning process and will stay in touch as details finalize.
We Invite early dialong from class leaders who are working on plans.

Nothing was normal for our graduating class of 2020, but the school did heroic work in making the celebration as real as possible.,., Here are two examples:
A unique celebration parade where UC family and friends turned out to cheer:

On behalf of the Alumni Associationi, WELCOME Class of 2020.
We know that your class had done an extraordinary amount of good planning and communicating, so the impact was especially painful. Please know that your Alumni Association will do anything in our power to be helpful.
As one example of our willingness to be helpful, visit this early version of a web page that might have been part of a virtual reunion's communication. (Browse back)
We normally recognize our new winners with information that includes their college of choice, but start-up challenges and uncertainties have slowed that process, too. Here are our winners. We wish them every success going forward. And we'll have an update later.

A record number of teachers applied for teacher grants for 2020-2021, and the Alumni Association was able to honor all requests. This ability to support our teachers is especially timely and important as teachers adjust to the new reality of teaching during a pandemic.
This photo > is the classic "worth a thousand words," as we are seeing technology at every level of the education process, requiring new skills for teachers and a variety of investment throughout K-12 education. below is our 2021 teacher grant awardee photo. Future communication will highlight specific projects.
It is impossible to overstate the dedication and courage of this teacher group and of the entire team at Union City schools! They are walking a path that has not been walked before in U.S. public educatiob and are doing an incredible job.
The Alumni Association ACTION fund is built annually for projects that happen NOW vs. the long-term curriculum projects that wil be funded by the Union City Education Foundation.
The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted our ACTION funds balance severely, but we were able to maintain full support for 2020-2021.
We appreciate -- and more importantly UC teachers and students appreciate -- your consideration of support! It is a morale builder as well as a teaching tool.
It has been exciting and encouraging to learn that many Alumni are interested in including Union City education in their plans for larger giving: major cash donations, estate bequests of other planned giving. Simply stated, the demands of 21st Century public education require more funding than normal budget channels provide. We can be the difference between students who are fully competitive and those at a disadvantage to larger, better funded schools.
